Vikings in unexpected places
If following in the wake of the Vikings, what could be a more natural than doing it from the vantage point of a ship that qualifies as a true classic?
Each year, as summer approaches, the MV Discovery heads north, for a series of cruises exploring all the expected places.
From Harwick, England, it sets course to the Norwegian fjords, followed by two Baltic voyages: “St. Petersburg” and “Baltic Treasures and Baltic Capitals.” In June, when the light is at its magic best, a Norwegian cruise reaches North Cape, and another continues all the way up to Spitsbergen.
Like some of the Vikings of old, MV Discovery then turns west, exploring the Faroes and Iceland – even Greenland.
For a heady dose of Viking history, this is the way to take it. In utter comfort.

Biking routes crisscross all of Scandinavia and will take you through the most beautiful of places and usually far away from traffic. Most cities, large or small invite the use of a bicycle for transportation and experience. All the islands of the Baltic; Bornholm (Denmark), Åland (Finland), Öland or Gotland (both Swedish) are perfect for a bicycle vacation. By combining with ferries you may want to use the bicycle between the Finnish capital of Helsinki and over to Sweden and Stockholm. In a similar fashion you can experience the southern coastlines of Norway and Sweden together with northern Jutland, Denmark.
A group of Nordic municipalities have come together to promote the use of the bicycle, among them several Danish, Norwegian and Swedish cities. More info at www.nordiskecykelbyer.dk.
